What is areola & 3D nipple tattooing?

3D areola tattooing is a form of paramedical micropigmentation. Pigment is matched by hand to your areola tone and layered to recreate the colour, shape and — through light and shadow — the illusion of a raised nipple. On a reconstructed or flat chest, a well-executed 3D areola can look strikingly realistic in everyday light. It involves no implants and no surgery — only pigment, skill and an artist’s eye for tone.

What to expect

Consultation. We begin with a private consultation to look at your skin, your reconstruction or scarring, and exactly the colour and shape you want. You’re welcome to send a photo in advance.

Colour matching. Every tone is mixed by hand for your natural skin and undertone — no two clients are treated the same.

The session(s). Areola tattooing is usually completed over two appointments — the first to build colour and shape, and a touch-up after healing to perfect it.

Healing. Colour softens as it heals over the following weeks; full guidance is on the Areola Aftercare page.

If you’ve had surgery or radiotherapy, we recommend confirming your timing with your surgeon — areola tattooing is typically done once the area has fully healed.

Does areola tattooing hurt? An anaesthetic cream is used during the procedure, and most clients describe the sensation as a scratching feeling.

How long does it last? It’s long-lasting but not permanent. Colour can soften over the years, and a refresh keeps it looking its best. It depends on your skin type, lifestyle and skin condition.

How many sessions will I need? Usually two — an initial session and a touch-up once healed.

Can I have it after reconstruction or radiotherapy? Often yes, once the area has fully healed. We recommend confirming timing with your surgeon first.
